Voting has begun for the Adventures of Maldives 2018 (Dhivehi Aahitha) video competition.
Voting commenced on 2pm on January 2 and will last until 2pm (GMT +5) on January 10.
The 27 videos submitted to the competition this year can be found as a playlist, titled Adventures of Maldives Video Competition, in the videos section of the official Facebook page of Visit Maldives. Voting can be done by reacting “Like,” “Love,” or “Wow,” to your favourite video.
The videos with the highest number of positive reactions (Like, Love, Wow) will be judged by a panel of experts who will select the winner and the top 10 videos of the competition. The winner will receive prize money of MVR 100,000 (USD 6,470), whilst the first and second runner-up will be given MVR 20,000 in prize money and a GoPro Hero 5, respectively.
The top 10 videos selected by the judging panel will also be featured on the official YouTube channel of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and promoted on other social and online media channels of MMPRC (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as well as at international travel trade exhibitions.
Launched last year, the Adventures of Maldives competition is a co-promotional marketing activity by MMPRC, aimed at showcasing personally shot video stories of locals and tourists engaging in adventurous activities in Maldives. The videos are expected to have positive promotional value to the Maldives as a tourism destination.
The theme of the competition covers conventional adventure related activities carried out in the Maldives such as scuba diving, island excursions, festivals, free diving, surfing, snorkelling and water sports. Any unconventional adventure related activities that take place in the Maldives are also considered.
Co-sponsored by Euro Store under the Red Bull brand and Tech Street, this year’s edition of the Adventures of Maldives competition was launched in October.
The inaugural edition of the competition, which was held between October and November 2017, received 46 submissions, with the most popular video getting over 80k videos on Facebook. An independent panel shortlisted and judged the videos that received the most likes and views before selecting the winner and the top 10 videos. The top finalist was awarded MVR 100,000 as prize money.
Ken’s job is just Beach… now yours could be too!

The successful candidate will be flown out to the breathtaking Coco Bodu Hithi resort, where they will take up the role of Beach for 10 days out from reality, while the Real World Kentinues on without them. Located in North Malé Atoll, Coco Bodu Hithi offers picture perfect white sandy beaches, not to be Kenfused with your average coastline. With the island boasting beautiful shorelines the entire way around, the winner can quite literally Beach on whatever side of the beach they want to Beach on.
Like all job applications, prospective candidates must meet the below criteria:
- Ability to stand proudly in the sand
- Spend endless hours staring out over the Indian Ocean
- Keep track of the morning waves
- Empty their head of all thoughts
- Have their rollerblades with them at all times (though good luck using them on the sandy beaches of the island…)
- Be comfortable performing a moody solo musical number and/or group dance sequence
- Proficient at guitar
- Know the words to “Push” by Matchbox Twenty by heart
- Have at least two pairs of sunglasses at all times
- Hold and lean on a surfboard
- Have 60 years experience as Beach (preferred but not essential)
The role excludes:
- Any Real World stress or actual work
- Lifeguard responsibilities
- Surfing dangerous waves
- Any of the sort of spirituality that comes with surfing
- Horses… or the patriarchy
- Medical training
- Beach-offs (strictly due to health & safety reasons)
- Your own Dream Beach House – or shall we say Mojo Dojo Casa House – located conveniently on a beach
- Guaranteed tan (perfect hair at Beach’s discretion)
- No official uniform but access to a wardrobe of stylish accessories
- No actual responsibilities
- Perfect weather, all the time
- Unlimited time to socialise
- 10 nights stay at Coco Bodu Hithi for Beach plus a partner or Allan of their choosing
- Return economy flights from UK to Malé & resort transfers
- Full board meal plan at a select resort restaurant
- One massage each at the Coco Spa (as Beach is tiring work)
