The 101 Activities at Angsana Velavaru

Published

on

Maldives Promotion House – Angsana Velavaru ushers in the New Year with 101 activities available for guests staying on property. From watersports and culinary classes to learning about the resort’s environmental efforts at the Marine Conservation Lab, a plethora of experiences await guests of all ages.

Perched on an expansive private lagoon in the virtually untouched South Nilandhe Atoll in the Maldives, and just a 40-minute seaplane journey from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, Angsana Velavaru (the island is known as “Turtle Island” in the local Dhivehi language) is surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters and ocean views as far as the eye can see.

This luxurious tropical getaway offers 79 private villas, all with beach frontage, and a cluster of 34 InOcean Villas, the first standalone collection of water villas in the Maldives perched one kilometre from the main island.

The resort’s azure lagoon is the playground for water games such as waboba, a new take on the frisbeewhich isused for play in waist-high water, as well as classic favourites such as water polo and aqua volleyball. Guests who prefer to soak in the sun while getting a little exercise can participate in cricket, football, volleyball and petanque on the lagoon’s white sand beach.

For those interested in giving back, the programmes organised by Angsana Velavaru’s Marine Conservation Lab are a prime place to begin.  Guests can participate in coral planting to replenish damaged reefs and snorkelling trips to learn about the abundant marine ecosystem and coral gardens found in and around the lagoon.

Couples looking to celebrating their special day at Angsana Velavaru can choose from five different wedding themes that showcase the natural beauty of the destination. Saying “I Do” has never been more romantic or unforgettable with various venues available:  at sunset on the beach, on a nearby uninhabited island, on adhoni (traditional Maldivian boat), under the full moon, and even underwater.

Guests looking for an adrenaline rush can choose from a wide range of motorised and non-motorised sports including sit-down hydrofoiling, a new water sport that creates a feeling akin to flying across the water. Other adventures include the use of hydro bikes and paddle bikes, kite flying, wake boarding, knee boarding, mono skiing and marine exploration in a glass bottom canoe.

With its proximity to several vibrant dive sites, Angsana Velavaru is the ideal location for novice to experienced divers.  Certified instructors at the PADI Gold Palm 5-Star dive centre offer different courses and excursions to explore the pristine waters of South Nilandhe Atoll. Divers can get up close and personal with white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles and whale sharks, among other exotic species.

Resort guides offer guests tips on how to fish for red snapper, grouper, jack fish, rainbow runners and sea bass for those looking to catch their own dinner. Further afield, guests can test their endurance with big local game while deep sea fishing.

A Champagne-fuelled sunset cruise or a private island picnic on an isolated sandbank sets the stage for romance.

Angsana Velavaru’s Kids’ Club offers child-friendly activities such as Easter egg hunts, craft workshops, Olympic-themed games, and more.   Diving lessons, supervised by certified instructors, take place in the lagoon and are a great way to help kids experience their first underwater breath.

Angsana Spa’s revitalising treatments place special emphasis on the use of natural elements such as native flowers and fruits. Therapies are based on the use of aromatherapy, therapeutic touch, and a fusion of techniques from East and West to revive and nourish.

Thirty four rooftop spa pavilions enable total relaxation as the wind blows gently through the treatment area and the sound of the ocean lulls guests to sleep.  The resort also offers private massage lessons for those interested in learning the art from Angsana Spa’s experts.

Through 30th April 2012, Angsana Velavaru introduces the No Lagoon Like It package where guests can enjoy all-inclusive meals for two persons during their stay. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner with house wine, beer and soft drinks at the resort’s dining outlets.  Guests are also entitled to a complimentary water sports activity daily (from a selected list of motorised water sports and non-motorised water sports).
