Six Senses Laamu welcomes Aqua Season

Six Senses – Six Senses Laamu has revealed the activities for this year’s Aqua Season. The series of events this year include the celebration of International Surfing Day, World Fitness Day and World Turtle Day. With a team of experts, which includes Celebrity Chefs, an Aquafitness specialist, resident DJs, Spa Visiting Practitioners and the Manta Trust, who will engage with the guests and hosts and help increase awareness of the importance of the conservation of marine life.

Surfing Season in Six Senses Laamu – Surfing Season lasts from April to October. “Off the hook” waters would be from May to September. The Yin Yang, one of the most famous surf breaks in Maldives, breaks on the outer reef of the local island of Hithadhoo, only a few minutes away from the resort. Trips to the Yin Yang can be organized on a daily basis and most of the time, guests can have the waves to themselves.  And for those eager to learn how to surf, a smaller wave breaks just by the resort’s beach.

International Surfing Day – Every year around the summer solstice (June 21), International Surfing Day is commemorated. It is a day in celebration of surfing and a special opportunity for all to pay homage to nature for providing us with such a magical environment. Resort’s team, together with Ocean Dimensions, invites the children from the Maamendhoo local school and their Surf Club to join the surfer guests on this day. As part of the sustainable surfing concept, a representative team of Six Senses Laamu will visit their island and install segregation bins to their school and give a small presentation on the importance of recycling.

Turtle, Six Senses Laamu

Turtle Nesting and Hatching Season – Between March and July, female Green turtles visit the beach to lay their eggs. The Turtle Team of hosts is on call 24 hours in order to ensure that these little ones make it safely to the Ocean. Resort shares the experience of turtle hatching with guests that like to witness these little marvels. Special events took place on World Turtle Day on May 23.

Aquafitness – From July 9 to 19, welcomes Aquafit specialist Nancy Durrenberger back. Manta, Six Senses Laamu

The Manta Trust- From April through November, a team of The Manta Trust will be on site performing research and helping raise greater awareness and understanding of the importance of these majestic animals. Guests will have the opportunity to dive with the team at “Manta point”, a manta ray cleaning station only a few minutes away from the resort. As they are conducting their research, they will show the guests how to identify manta rays and to participate in the “Manta researcher for a day” program. They will also be offering educational presentations and visit to the Den for some fun Manta educational games with the younger guests.

Celebrity Chefs – What about meeting a surfing chef? Six Senses Laamu will welcome Chef Miki for four dinners and a chance  to surf with him from July 28 to August 5. He has been cooking and managing restaurants in Japan, Maldives and Australia for more than 25 years.  Apart from food, which he considers a major part of his life, he also has a big love for surfing and traveling to surf. He has surfed waves in more than 20 countries. From August 16 to 23, resort will have the Manganaro – Merrett duo back. They will offer three signature dinners during their stay. They are no strangers to the resort’s locally grown fresh ingredients which they really enjoy cooking with.

Resident DJs – This Aqua Season, Six Senses Laamu welcomes back two DJs that really know how to create a magical musical journey and make sunsets in Chill Bar unique. From May 10 to August 6, Nacho Sotomayor will be on the decks. Nacho’s signature sounds create unique emotions and bring out the most intense feelings from every Maldivian sunset.
