Inspired by the Dhoni, the traditional Maldivian boat that has long carried people, stories and goods between islands, the festive programme bids guests to slow down, look around and discover something wonderfully unexpected. From local flavours and cultural encounters to sunset moments, live music, merry gatherings and island-inspired experiences, every moment becomes another stop along the voyage.
At Mercure Maldives Kooddoo, the holiday season begins with a warm island welcome and an invitation to discover the Maldives in a way that feels authentic, spontaneous and personal.

Guests can share a sunset with someone special, raise a glass with new friends, discover local flavours or simply slow down and take in the rhythm of the lagoon. Here, the journey is just as important as the destination.

Christmas: A little bit of magic, island style
Christmas arrives with a Maldivian twist as the island comes alive with festive spirit, warm gatherings and the distinctive sounds of the tropics.
The season begins with a Christmas Tree Lighting, setting the tone for days filled with festive dining, live music and the captivating rhythm of Maldivian Boduberu. Expect vibrant colors, local flavours and traditions inspired by tropical lifestyle, brought together in a celebration that feels both familiar and wonderfully diverse.
At the table, holiday spreads meet the flavours of the Maldives, offering guests an opportunity to taste something local, surprising and memorable. Come curious, take a bite and discover a flavour you may not have expected. And for those keeping an eye on the lagoon, there may just be a special visitor making an unforgettable entrance. Keep watch for Santa’s arrival by Dhoni — because in the Maldives, even Christmas comes by a boat.

New Year: Voyage of the Dhoni
As 2026 drifts towards the horizon, the voyage reaches its most spirited chapter. Inspired by the traditional Maldivian Dhoni, New Year’s Eve brings together the flavours, rhythms and warm-hearted spirit of the island. The evening unfolds with Boduberu, festive drinks, a celebratory feast, live music and entertainment, creating the perfect setting to leave the old year behind and welcome 2027.
Then comes the moment the voyage has been sailing towards. As midnight approaches, the celebration gathers pace beneath the Maldivian sky, welcoming 2027 with music, laughter, clinking glasses and the undeniable vibe of a tropical evening. No grand map is needed for this journey — just follow the tune, look towards the ocean and see where the night takes you. Because at Mercure Maldives Kooddoo, the best New Year stories are not simply planned; they are discovered along the way.

“At Mercure Maldives Kooddoo, we believe the most memorable holidays are the ones that leave you curious. Huvafen Fushi introduces Heveya sleep wellness in signature pavilions
The original Dream Island has introduced Heveya’s expertise in sleep wellness to its most exclusive pavilions, extending its philosophy of conscious luxury beyond the spa and into the bedroom.
Huvafen Fushi, Maldives, September, 2026 – Huvafen Fushi, the Maldives resort renowned for its spirit of innovation and unconventional approach to luxury, has partnered with premium sleep wellness brand Heveya to introduce a new level of restorative wellbeing for guests staying in its most sought-after accommodation.
From September 2026, guests staying in Huvafen’s Beach House and Two-bedroom Ocean Pavilions will enjoy an elevated sleep experience with Heveya’s natural organic latex mattresses, pillows, duvets and bedding. At its heart is the Heveya’s Sleep Concierge, bringing a more personalised approach to rest by inviting guests to tailor key elements of their sleep environment around their individual preferences. Guests can select the pillow best suited to their sleep style, choose between goose down or organic bamboo duvet inserts, and opt for bedding in either organic French linen or organic bamboo cotton. Together, these considered choices create a bespoke bed composition designed to support deeper, more restorative sleep.

The partnership comes as sleep tourism continues to reshape the luxury travel landscape. According to the Global Wellness Institute’s 2026 Sleep Initiative Trends report, deep rest is one of the fastest-growing segments of the global wellness economy, as travelers increasingly seek destinations that help them recover from stress, jet lag and digital overload.
Luxury has always been about how a place makes you feel. Increasingly, that feeling begins with a great night’s sleep. At Huvafen Fushi, wellness has always extended beyond the spa, and this latest partnership brings that philosophy into some of the most important hours of every stay.
Heveya was founded on a simple belief: that exceptional sleep begins with exceptional natural materials. Crafted from organic natural latex harvested from the sap of the Hevea brasiliensis rubber tree, Heveya mattresses are made without chemicals, glues or coils, offering responsive support that gently contours to the body while maintaining exceptional durability. Their naturally breathable open-cell structure promotes continuous airflow, helping to regulate temperature throughout the night for a cooler, more comfortable sleep. Each mattress is finished with a removable organic bamboo cover which, uniquely, can be opened to reveal exactly what lies within. This transparency not only reflects Heveya’s commitment to natural, considered craftsmanship, but also offers a more hygienic sleep solution, allowing the mattress interior to be easily seen and cared for.

Complementing the mattresses are Heveya’s organic natural latex pillows, designed with additional ventilation channels to enhance breathability while providing consistent head and neck support through the night.
Recognising that no two people sleep the same way, the Sleep Concierge includes a personalised pillow consultation to help guests identify the support best suited to their individual sleep style. With six different pillow designs spanning from soft to extra firm and tailored to side, back and stomach sleepers, guests can find the option that feels most natural to them. Naturally resistant to dust mites, mould and bacteria, latex also promotes a cleaner, healthier sleep environment, while removable bamboo fibre covers provide an added layer of softness and ease of care.

Beyond the mattress and pillow, the Sleep Concierge allows guests to personalise the finer details of their sleep environment, from a choice of breathable bamboo cotton or organic flax linen bedding to lightweight bamboo fibre or ethically sourced goose down duvet inserts. Together, these considered choices create a bed tailored to individual preferences, reflecting Huvafen Fushi’s intuitive approach to personalised hospitality.
Sustainability sits at the heart of the partnership. As a certified B Corp. company, Heveya is committed to meeting high standards of social and environmental responsibility, with this ethos embedded throughout its operations. The brand sources latex from its own organic plantations, operates water recycling systems within its manufacturing processes and supports rainforest conservation by adopting an acre of rainforest for every mattress sold. This shared commitment to responsible practices, considered craftsmanship and thoughtful luxury makes the collaboration a natural fit for Huvafen Fushi’s evolving sustainability journey.

“Luxury at Huvafen has always meant something felt, not just seen,” said Noel Cameron, General Manager of Huvafen Fushi. “Partnering with Heveya lets us extend that philosophy to the most personal part of any stay, sleep. It’s a quiet addition, but it’s exactly the kind of thoughtful, purposeful detail our guests have come to expect from us.”
The Heveya sleep experience is now available exclusively in Huvafen Fushi’s Two-Bedroom Ocean Pavilion with Indoor-Outdoor Pool, Two-Bedroom Ocean Pavilion with Outdoor Pool and Two Bedroom Beach House with Pool.

BBM’s ‘Studio of Culinary Excellence’ opens at MNU to bridge classroom, industry
The best way to secure the future is to create it.
Creating that future through specific, purposeful initiatives is what drives people of purpose—and, in turn, moves us all closer to the future we desire.
The Maldives is a compelling case study of a tourism-driven economy. Look around and ask why an event is being staged, what someone is working on, or where a new initiative is leading, and the answer will often point to the hospitality sector. Securing the future, therefore, is inextricably linked to strengthening and advancing that sector.

Here, “strengthening” means making the sector’s contribution more sustainable; ensuring that a greater share of its growth benefits the community; continuing to offer a compelling value proposition to the discerning global traveller; and ensuring that visitor experiences continue to generate an unparalleled reputation and valuable referrals.
To achieve these outcomes in the future, it is essential that current and future generations of the local community engage actively with the industry. Making hospitality appealing and aspirational, enhancing the quality of delivery and service, and building a pipeline of skills and talent into the sector are areas in which initiatives, inspiration, infrastructure and investment should be concentrated.

It is firmly in this context that Mr Ismail Hilmy, Chairman and Managing Director of BBM, initiated the establishment of a modern, exceptionally well-equipped and thoughtfully designed model kitchen, aptly named the Studio of Culinary Excellence. By donating the Studio to MNU, under whose auspices it will serve the Maldivian culinary community, Mr Hilmy is responding directly to the need for deeper community engagement. At the heart of BBM’s framework for industry-outreach initiatives— “Because tomorrows start today”—is Mr Hilmy’s ethos of fostering engagement and vibrancy in the industry.
“For our students, the gap between the classroom and a working resort kitchen has always been the hardest one to close,” said Dr Shehenaaz Adam, Vice Chancellor of the Maldives National University. “The Studio of Culinary Excellence closes that gap. Students can now train on the same equipment and to the same standards they will encounter on their first day in the industry. We are grateful to BBM for a partnership that goes well beyond a donation, and we look forward to the Studio becoming a place where the university and the industry learn from one another.”

The Studio therefore creates an opportunity to develop a pipeline of skills and talent in service of the industry.
“Embedding purpose in our work has been an ongoing endeavour at BBM. It keeps us connected to our stakeholders and builds insight, understanding and trust. Being a meaningful partner to academia as we move into the future gives us a great sense of fulfilment and guides our initiatives under the banner, ‘Because tomorrows start today,’” said AVS Subrahmanyam, Chief Operating Officer of BBM.
But what is the value of physical infrastructure without the corresponding spark of aspiration and ambition?

As Ali Afrah Hassan, Executive Representative at Chairman’s Office – BBM, aptly observed: “The Studio offers students and members of the community hands-on experience with world-class equipment, together with knowledge-sharing masterclasses. Who knows—in the not-too-distant future, a Michelin-starred Maldivian chef may fondly credit some of their inspiration to time spent at the Studio!”
Now that is the mind and heart in sync—working towards a future that is aspirational, ambitious and entirely attainable.

Vanessa Goodman joins Pullman Maldives Maamutaa for Vibrance Week
Pullman Maldives Maamutaa has announced wellness expert Vanessa Goodman as its resident practitioner for Vibrance Week, a six-day wellness programme taking place from 21 to 26 September 2026.

Held under the theme “Relax, Restore, Revive”, the programme will introduce guests to a series of experiences centred on movement, recovery, mindfulness and personal wellbeing.
According to the resort, Vibrance Week reflects its approach to wellness as an ongoing, holistic practice rather than an experience limited to a holiday. The programme is intended to help guests reconnect, recharge and develop practices that can support balance in their personal and professional lives.

Goodman brings 14 years of practice and research into the relationship between movement, breath, emotions and the nervous system. Her approach considers movement not only as physical exercise, but also as a tool for developing strength, confidence, self-awareness and a deeper connection between physical and mental wellbeing.
During the week, Goodman will guide guests through a framework built around three areas: purposeful movement, safe physical challenge, and the balance between performance and recovery.

The resort said the programme will encourage participants to work towards physical goals while remaining mindful of their individual limits, with recovery and restoration incorporated alongside more active sessions.
“Vanessa’s philosophy aligns perfectly with this vision. For her, movement goes far beyond physical exercise — it is a strategic pathway to building inner strength, confidence, self-awareness and deeper cognitive connection,” Pullman Maldives Maamutaa said in announcing the programme.

Vibrance Week forms part of the resort’s wider focus on experiences designed around wellbeing and lifestyle, combining guided activities with its island setting in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
The programme will run at Pullman Maldives Maamutaa from 21 to 26 September 2026.
