Splash of wonder, touch of magic: Holiday celebrations at COLOURS OF OBLU

Published

on

This December, the festive season takes on a whole new meaning at COLOURS OF OBLU, where four islands present four completely different ways to celebrate. For those yet to plan their year-end holiday, COLOURS OF OBLU offers something for every mood and moment, from the high-energy splash of OBLU SELECT Sangeli, to the romantic elegance of OBLU SELECT Lobigili, the exuberant family fun at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, and the serene, soulful rhythms of OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO.

At OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, the holidays unfold like a video game come to life. Themed around Roblox, the resort transforms into an open-air playground filled with imaginative workshops, poolside foam parties, neon DJ nights, and family movie sessions under the stars. Children mix mocktails and join daily challenges, while New Year’s Eve builds up to a dazzling gala dinner and countdown that feels like one big family celebration.

Across the jetty, sister island OBLU SELECT Lobigili offers something more intimate. This adult exclusive sanctuary invites couples to step into a ‘Timeless Love, a Masquerade of Moments’ themed celebration. Blending indulgence with elegance, the days drift by in ocean exploration, wellness rituals, and decorating gingerbread houses, and nights sparkling with delicious cocktails, candlelit dinners, soft jazz or live saxophone. The highlight is a New Year’s Eve masquerade gala in white and gold, designed for whispered resolutions and slow dances in the sand.

OBLU SELECT Sangeli, meanwhile, is all about rhythm and energy. Its “Waves of Wonder New Year Splash” brings together poolside games, cocktail showdowns, live music, and beach carnivals, filling the island with non-stop festive cheer. Stroll barefoot along white sandy beaches, relish tuna by the waves, jam to merry melodies, and light the Christmas tree. On New Year’s Eve, a colourful gala dinner spills onto the sand with fireworks, DJ sets, and barefoot dancing until dawn.

And for ocean lovers there is OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO, where the reef inspires a gentler kind of festivity. With its “Underwater Coral” theme, mornings begin with yoga and snorkelling, afternoons feature reef talks, art workshops, and conservation activities. Evenings come alive with themed culinary spreads ranging from Mekong flavours to Indonesian feasts, building to the “Ring of Fire” New Year’s Eve gala by the sea. It’s festive, but at your own pace — reflective, soulful, and beautifully enchanting.

As the year draws to a close, COLOURS OF OBLU invites travellers to celebrate the festive season in all its vibrant variety. If you haven’t yet decided where to ring in the New Year, now is the perfect time to book a stay at one of these resorts and welcome 2026 amidst the beauty and joy of the Maldives.

BBM’s ‘Studio of Culinary Excellence’ opens at MNU to bridge classroom, industry

Published

The best way to secure the future is to create it.

Creating that future through specific, purposeful initiatives is what drives people of purpose—and, in turn, moves us all closer to the future we desire.

The Maldives is a compelling case study of a tourism-driven economy. Look around and ask why an event is being staged, what someone is working on, or where a new initiative is leading, and the answer will often point to the hospitality sector. Securing the future, therefore, is inextricably linked to strengthening and advancing that sector.

Here, “strengthening” means making the sector’s contribution more sustainable; ensuring that a greater share of its growth benefits the community; continuing to offer a compelling value proposition to the discerning global traveller; and ensuring that visitor experiences continue to generate an unparalleled reputation and valuable referrals.

To achieve these outcomes in the future, it is essential that current and future generations of the local community engage actively with the industry. Making hospitality appealing and aspirational, enhancing the quality of delivery and service, and building a pipeline of skills and talent into the sector are areas in which initiatives, inspiration, infrastructure and investment should be concentrated.

It is firmly in this context that Mr Ismail Hilmy, Chairman and Managing Director of BBM, initiated the establishment of a modern, exceptionally well-equipped and thoughtfully designed model kitchen, aptly named the Studio of Culinary Excellence. By donating the Studio to MNU, under whose auspices it will serve the Maldivian culinary community, Mr Hilmy is responding directly to the need for deeper community engagement. At the heart of BBM’s framework for industry-outreach initiatives— “Because tomorrows start today”—is Mr Hilmy’s ethos of fostering engagement and vibrancy in the industry.

“For our students, the gap between the classroom and a working resort kitchen has always been the hardest one to close,” said Dr Shehenaaz Adam, Vice Chancellor of the Maldives National University. “The Studio of Culinary Excellence closes that gap. Students can now train on the same equipment and to the same standards they will encounter on their first day in the industry. We are grateful to BBM for a partnership that goes well beyond a donation, and we look forward to the Studio becoming a place where the university and the industry learn from one another.”

The Studio therefore creates an opportunity to develop a pipeline of skills and talent in service of the industry.

“Embedding purpose in our work has been an ongoing endeavour at BBM. It keeps us connected to our stakeholders and builds insight, understanding and trust. Being a meaningful partner to academia as we move into the future gives us a great sense of fulfilment and guides our initiatives under the banner, ‘Because tomorrows start today,’” said AVS Subrahmanyam, Chief Operating Officer of BBM.

But what is the value of physical infrastructure without the corresponding spark of aspiration and ambition?

As Ali Afrah Hassan, Executive Representative at Chairman’s Office – BBM, aptly observed: “The Studio offers students and members of the community hands-on experience with world-class equipment, together with knowledge-sharing masterclasses. Who knows—in the not-too-distant future, a Michelin-starred Maldivian chef may fondly credit some of their inspiration to time spent at the Studio!”

Now that is the mind and heart in sync—working towards a future that is aspirational, ambitious and entirely attainable.

Vanessa Goodman joins Pullman Maldives Maamutaa for Vibrance Week

Published

Pullman Maldives Maamutaa has announced wellness expert Vanessa Goodman as its resident practitioner for Vibrance Week, a six-day wellness programme taking place from 21 to 26 September 2026.

Held under the theme “Relax, Restore, Revive”, the programme will introduce guests to a series of experiences centred on movement, recovery, mindfulness and personal wellbeing.

According to the resort, Vibrance Week reflects its approach to wellness as an ongoing, holistic practice rather than an experience limited to a holiday. The programme is intended to help guests reconnect, recharge and develop practices that can support balance in their personal and professional lives.

Goodman brings 14 years of practice and research into the relationship between movement, breath, emotions and the nervous system. Her approach considers movement not only as physical exercise, but also as a tool for developing strength, confidence, self-awareness and a deeper connection between physical and mental wellbeing.

During the week, Goodman will guide guests through a framework built around three areas: purposeful movement, safe physical challenge, and the balance between performance and recovery.

The resort said the programme will encourage participants to work towards physical goals while remaining mindful of their individual limits, with recovery and restoration incorporated alongside more active sessions.

“Vanessa’s philosophy aligns perfectly with this vision. For her, movement goes far beyond physical exercise — it is a strategic pathway to building inner strength, confidence, self-awareness and deeper cognitive connection,” Pullman Maldives Maamutaa said in announcing the programme.

Vibrance Week forms part of the resort’s wider focus on experiences designed around wellbeing and lifestyle, combining guided activities with its island setting in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

The programme will run at Pullman Maldives Maamutaa from 21 to 26 September 2026.
