Starwood Hotels Holds Ramadan Break Fast Fundraiser for UNICEF Check Out For Children
Maldives Promotion House – Starwood Hotels held a fundraiser for the UNICEF Check out for Children™ Challenge 2011, at the Ramadan Break Fast yesterday. The Ramadan Break Fast was held at Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa and was attended by various key local travel agents, tour operators and partners.
During the Break Fast, vouchers were sold for USD 1 each, and the attendees made their own contribution to the fund by purchasing the. The funds raised from the sale of the vouchers were donated to UNICEF Check out for Children. After the Break Fast a raffle draw was made from the vouchers and four lucky winners were granted memorable prizes by Ms. Ursula Schoefl, the General Manager of Sheraton Maldives.
The fourth place was won by Ms. Nigaz Izzatora of Sun Travel & Tours and was granted a two nights stay in Sheraton Bangalore Hotel at Brigade Gateway for two people. For the third place Mr. Abdulla Shujau of Lets Go Maldives was granted a two nights stay in Plaza Athenee Bangkok for two people.
From Capital Travel & Tours, Ms. Fathimath Fathima won the second place, and a two nights stay at Sheraton Maldives for two people. Mr. Chamara Hikkadukorala of Leisure Maldives took away the first place and a two nights stay at W Retreat & Spa Maldives for two.
The UNICEF Check out for Children Challenge is a staff fundraising competition among Starwood Hotels which began in 2003 and has continued to garner strength and support throughout the various Starwood Hotels and Resorts in the Asia Pacific region.
Starwood began this year’s fund raising activities by organizing a special “Fishing Competition & BBQ Night” for guests with performances of traditional music Bodu Beru by local Maldivian artists.
The operator of the Water Sports Center at Sheraton Maldives, Extreme Maldives Water Sports supported the fund raising event by providing the boats free of charge.
“Associates of Sheraton Maldives are delighted to be working with the UNICEF Check out for Children again in 2011. The Starwood Cares program is at the heart of our daily work principles and caring for our global community is a way of us connecting with each other through these fundraising activities for the greater good of others,” General Manager of Sheraton Maldives, Ursula Schoefl said.
For the past 16 years UNICEF and Starwood Hotels and Resorts have been working together to raise funds for the world’s most vulnerable children – with over AUD7 million raised since the program began. In 2010 UNICEF Check out for Children Challenge raised over USD132,000 in the Asia Pacific region.

Seaside Finolhu Baa Atoll Maldives has announced the appointment of Warren Moore as the resort’s new Executive Chef.
Chef Warren Moore hailing from South Africa, brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, having earned his Culinary Degree at City and Guilds Culinary Institute. With over 25 years of distinguished service in the Restaurant and Hospitality Industry, Chef Warren is poised to elevate the culinary offerings at Seaside Finolhu to new heights.
In his previous role, Chef Warren served as Executive Chef at Jawakara Maldives, where he showcased his culinary prowess and leadership skills. Prior to that, he spent seven years honing his craft within various properties of the esteemed Crown and Champa Resorts Group. His culinary journey has taken him across continents, including stints in South Africa, Mozambique, London, and the United States.
As the Executive Chef at Seaside Finolhu, Chef Warren will oversee all culinary operations, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and food quality are maintained. His responsibilities include supervising daily kitchen operations, managing food production, and leading kitchen staff with a focus on excellence and innovation.
