Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Game of Thrones’s Jaime Lannister, arrives in Maldives
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his role as Ser Jaime Lannister in the HBO series Game of Thrones, has arrived in Maldives.
Nikolaj, who also serves as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, arrived in the Maldives Sunday afternoon and was welcomed at the main Velana International Airport by Shoko Noda, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to the Maldives.
The Danish actor, producer and screenwriter is in the Maldives to participate in a dinner organised by UNDP to raise funds for its Climate Action Project. The invitation-only dinner is to be held at Hotel Jen in capital Male on Tuesday.
The Climate Action Project is an initiative by UNDP Maldives in partnership with its local partners with an aim of unlocking a community’s potential to respond to and manage climate related emergencies in the Maldives.
Born and raised in Copenhagen, Nikolaj has worked in both English and foreign language cinema, winning acclaim in his country for his breakout role in 1994’s Nightwatch. His first major US film role was as Gary Gordon in 2001 war flick, Black Hawk Down. Since then, he has appeared in a number of well-received films, including Kingdom of Heaven, Wimbledon and Gods of Egypt.
But Nikolaj became widely known for his Games of Thrones role of Ser Jaime Lannister, a much admired soldier who is known as the Kingslayer. He is also secretly sleeping with his twin sister Cersei Lannister, and later loses his hand which causes his ability to suffer.
Maldives is amongst the most sought after destinations by celebrity travellers from around the world.
Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio and American TV personality Paris Hilton have recently partied in the Maldives, while the likes of English singer and television presenter Rochelle Humes and her husband Marvin, and British TV personality Billie Faiers have all declared the Maldives as their favourite part of the world for a relaxing getaway. Another British singer Perrie Edwards, English actress Millie Mackintosh and the Beckhams have also fell in love with the white sands and the blue skies of the Maldives.
Hollywood and Bollywood personalities such as Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra as well as world-renowned music artists have declared their love for the Maldives. Sports personalities, including the likes of David Beckham, Carlos Tevez, Arjen Robben, Miroslav Klose, Franz Beckenbauer and Marcel Desailly have also spent their hard-earned vacations in this tropical paradise.

Alila Kothaifaru Maldives aligns festive events with World of Care commitments
Alila Kothaifaru Maldives will mark the festive season with a programme that combines charitable initiatives with its sustainability commitments. Guests will be invited to donate, run, paddle and plant in support of local community and environmental projects, alongside dining experiences that highlight Maldivian produce.
Under its World of Care commitments, the resort has adopted initiatives to improve the school experience for children at R. Maduvvari School on the neighbouring island and to protect the surrounding marine ecosystem. Participation in the season’s activities will contribute directly to these programmes.
From 25 December 2025 to 7 January 2026, guests may purchase wrapped gifts from a Christmas Charity Surprise Tree, with all proceeds directed to the resort’s charitable causes.
On 27 December 2025, Euro Divers will lead a coral-planting session within the house reef. The activity forms part of an ongoing conservation effort to strengthen reef resilience by increasing coral diversity through the careful planting of hardy coral fragments.
Seasalt restaurant will host a “Boat to Table” beachfront barbecue on 28 December 2025 and 4 January 2026. The buffet will feature seafood such as giant tuna sashimi, ceviche and grilled fish prepared from the day’s catch supplied by local fishermen, reflecting the resort’s focus on local sourcing and support for the Raa Atoll community.
A Charity Kayak Race will take place on 30 December 2025 and 5 January 2026. Entry will be by voluntary donation, with funds supporting enhancements at the R. Maduvvari pre-school.
On 2 January 2026, the programme will conclude with a Charity Island Fun Run around the island. Branded t-shirts will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the resort’s community initiatives.
