A complimentary marine awareness talk will also be held from 5-6 pm on Monday.

For an additional USD 160+ per person, guests staying on Bed and Breakfast basis can also enjoy a special Chinese buffet at Amilla’s Wok restaurant. Full and half board covers the special buffet dinner.

Amilla’s sister property Finolhu also has a similar set of activities, games and offers scheduled for the festival. They are:

  • Traditional sunrise fishing (USD 70+ per person): On Sunday, Monday and Wednesday mornings, try your luck and bring home the freshest jack fish or perhaps and emperor fish.

Finolhu’s kids club is hosting a series of fun activities and games, including dragon parade, fire your lantern, dragon craft making and dragon pastry making. The Kanusan restaurant will feature a Dragon Boat Festival Celebration Menu on Tuesday, which will be covered by half and full board but those staying on Bed and Breakfast basis will be charged an extra USD 90+.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday occurring near the summer solstice that commemorates fealty (loyalty) and filial piety (respect for one’s parents, elders and ancestors). The festival is marked with several activities, including preparing and eating zongzi, drinking realgar wine and racing dragon boats.

China has maintained its position as the single biggest source market despite falling numbers over the past year. In 2016, the Maldives welcomed 324,326 visitors from China, which was a 9.8 percent drop compared to the previous year. However, the Maldives recently announced plans to step up marketing in China in order to increase the number of Chinese tourists to one million per year.

Accessible by a 30-minute scenic seaplane flight from the Maldives’ main Velana International Airport, Amilla offers a choice of 59 houses that sit gracefully over crystal clear waters, nestled among lush tree tops or hugging the shores of pristine white sand. Additionally, the resort offers eight spectacular four to eight bedroom Beach Residences ideally suited to large families, groups of friends and VVIPs seeking the ultimate in space and privacy.

Bringing a timeless sense of style to the pristine lagoons and rich waters of the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, Finolhu, which opened last June, is a refined, retro-inspired island paradise for the fun-loving beach-erati, and an unexpected revival of the halcyon days of the classic chic getaway. With its retro themed Maldives island concept, Finolhu caters to guests seeking fun and adventure on a party atmosphere.
