Hilton Introduces Excursions to the First Maldives’ Marine National Park
Maldives Promotion House – Hilton Maldives Iru Fushi Resort & Spa is launching its la carte excursion offers including the first marine park in the Maldives, adding to its comprehensive list of activities offered at the property.
The first Marine National Park (MNP) in the Maldives is a group of uninhabited islands commonly known as Edu Faru. This environmentally diverse lagoon is located in the Noonu Atoll.
Mohamed Hameed, the Promoter of the MNP, has been working for over 20 years to establish a protected area in the Maldives with this classification. The Edu Faru archipelago and its nine uninhabited islands, lagoon and its surrounding waters form a single unified coral reef ecosystem.
This area is a natural ecosystem reflecting the biodiversity of the Northern atolls of the Maldives. It is largely undamaged and unpolluted. The environment is diverse, with mangroves, lakes, coconut palm trees and other tropical plants. There is an abundance of wildlife including big land crabs and many species of birds, coral and fish.
The MNP is a non-profit organisation that strives to protect, conserve and preserve the natural setting and rich biodiversity of the archipelago Edu Faru and surrounding waters with minimum intrusion for future generations. The MNP will be managed in an inclusive participatory manner with close links, support and collaboration with the atoll community, where the MNP promotes educational activities, sustainable tourism and preservation of cultural traditions.
