Maldives showcases tourism products at Malaysia’s leading consumer travel fair

Maldives has showcased its tourism products at Malaysia’s leading consumer fair, MATTA.

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together with 14 officials from nine companies involved in the Maldives’ tourism industry are participating in the consumer fair held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from September 6-8.

Situated in a 54 sqm space, the Maldives stand portrays the unique natural beauty of the destination. The stand plays host to a number of activities, including local food tastings, experiencing the Maldives’ beauty through virtual reality, as well as entertainment by Faiymini Boduberu Group.

MATTA is Malaysia’s leading consumers travel fair. It attracts 100,000 plus visitors from Malaysia, the ASEAN region, and the rest of the world.

“This is the first time MMPRC is taking part in MATTA in our efforts to promote Maldives as the most preferred destination among the ASEAN travellers,” a statement issued by MMPRC read.

“MATTA provides the opportunity to interact with consumers as well as the industry professional and top travel trade partners.”

Malaysia is a fast growing source market for Maldives tourism. Official figures show that 22,202 Malaysian tourists visited the Maldives in 2018 — a 16.3 per cent increase over the 19,092 in 2017.

The growth in the Malaysian market is boosted by direct flight operations to the Maldives by Malaysia’s leading budget carrier AirAsia.

AirAsia currently operates a daily service connecting Kuala Lumpur and Male, utilising its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 and 186 seat capacity. Separately, its long-haul affiliate AirAsia X serves the same route four days a week using Airbus A330-300 aircraft with 377-seat capacity, including 12 Premium Flatbed seats.
