Hurawalhi Maldives’ 5.8 Undersea Restaurant wins Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

Hurawalhi Maldives’ 5.8 Undersea Restaurant has received the Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator magazine.

Curated by an experienced and passionate team of wine connoisseurs and sommeliers, the 5.8 Undersea Restaurant at Hurawalhi is not only renowned for its spectacular setting 5.8 metres below the ocean but also for its gourmet journeys. These are made perfect with fabulous wines.

According to Wine Spectator, the wine list at 5.8 Undersea Restaurant features “a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Whether compact or extensive, focused or diverse, these lists deliver sufficient choice to satisfy discerning wine lovers.”

Wine Spectator Awards recognise restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

To qualify for an award, a wine list must present complete, accurate information, including vintages and appellations for all selections. Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, and the overall presentation of the list is also considered.

Lists that meet these requirements are judged for one of three awards: Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence, and the Grand Award.

The wine lists which are conferred the Award of Excellence typically offer at least 90 selections. They feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Whether compact or extensive, focused or diverse, these lists deliver sufficient choice to satisfy discerning wine lovers.

Officially inaugurated in January 2016, the five-star Hurawalhi resort is accessible by a 40-minute scenic seaplane flight from the main airport, and offers 90 villas, including 60 Ocean Villas and 30 Beach Villas, for grown-ups who are seeking luxury and innovation. The villas are stylishly and beautifully conceived featuring soothing décor, sumptuous linens on king size beds, bleached wooden floors, and private terraces with panoramic views.
